In a controversial move, Donald Trump has said that the United States (US) will withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
The agreement, signed in 2016, is an accord between 195 nations to combat climate change, and required the US to cut its greenhouse gases by up to 28% by 2025.
Trump, the President of the US, is a fossil fuel advocate, and had previously stated that the Paris Agreement was a ‘bad deal’ for the United States.
The process to pull out of the agreement is lengthy though, meaning that if Trump isn’t re-elected in 2020 then his successor could, potentially, reverse the decision.
Critics of Trump’s decision have argued that it weakens America’s leadership and credibility on the world stage when it comes to environmental decisions.
