The Glastonbury Festival will be minus one band this year after the event’s organisers decided to rescind their invitation to Killchildren to play.
The band, who describe themselves as a ‘two-bit rave punk band’, have drawn criticism from British newspaper The Sunday Times, which took offence to the band’s song ‘Kill Tory Scum’.
The song, written as a rebuke of the Conservative government’s austerity policies, includes the lyric: ‘Tory genocide is the perfect outcome’.
Due to play on the Shangri-Hell stage, an organisers’ statement said, “We in no way condone violence and will not allow this matter to overshadow the incredibly inclusive spirit of Glastonbury.”
Killchildren have since accused the festival of ‘buckling under pressure from the right-wing media’.
